Typeform free plan limits and free alternatives
Typeform is the tool that made forms feel like a conversation: one question at a time, big friendly type, smooth transitions. It's no surprise people reach for it first. But many discover its free plan's main limit only after sharing their first survey: responses run out quickly.
Here's what the free plan gives you, when it's enough, and which free alternatives to consider when it isn't.
The key limit: 10 responses per month
Typeform's free plan is designed as a way to try the product. Its headline restriction is 10 responses per month. Once a form reaches that number, new respondents can't submit until the next month or until you upgrade. Free forms also show Typeform branding.
Ten responses is enough to test a form with your team or run a tiny poll. It is not enough for:
- A customer feedback survey sent to even a modest email list
- Event registration or RSVPs
- Job applications for a single open role
- Course or workshop feedback from a class
- Lead capture on a website with any real traffic
Why the cap catches people out
The trouble with a response cap is that it fails at the worst moment: right after you've shared your link widely. Respondents hit a closed form, you lose answers you can't get back, and the fix is a rushed upgrade. If you expect more than a handful of responses, pick a tool whose free tier matches your volume before you send the link.
Free alternatives worth knowing
Google Forms
Free with a Google account and, in practice, no response cap for normal use. Responses can flow into Google Sheets automatically. It's reliable and familiar, but forms look like Google Forms and the one-question-at-a-time style isn't available.
Microsoft Forms
Included with a Microsoft account and Microsoft 365. Good for quizzes and internal surveys, and it connects to Excel. Like Google Forms, its design is functional rather than conversational.
Tally
Tally is popular as a Typeform alternative because its free plan is built around unlimited forms and responses, with paid plans for extras like custom domains and removing branding. It feels like writing a document, which many people find faster than drag-and-drop builders.
Jotform
Jotform has a huge template library and many widgets. Its free plan has a monthly submission limit that's larger than Typeform's but still a cap, so check whether it fits your volume.
Tinkro free form builder (self-hosted)
The Tinkro form builder gives you the Typeform-style experience — one question per screen, progress bar, Enter to continue — without an account. Instead of hosting the form for you, it exports a single HTML file. You put it on Cloudflare Pages, GitHub Pages, Netlify or your own site, and point it at any endpoint that accepts JSON for responses. Because responses never pass through us, there's nothing to cap.
The trade-off: you need to be comfortable uploading a file and setting one URL. It also currently supports a focused set of question types — short text, long text, multiple choice, rating and email — rather than Typeform's full logic and integrations.
Quick comparison

How to choose
- Under 10 responses a month and you love the design: Typeform free is fine.
- Internal surveys, responses in a spreadsheet: Google Forms or Microsoft Forms.
- Polished public forms, lots of responses, hosted for you: Tally.
- Conversational style, no account, own your data: the Tinkro builder.
- You need advanced logic, payments and integrations now: a paid Typeform or Jotform plan may genuinely be worth it.
Where Tinkro is going
We're building Tinkro so forms live inside documents: explain something, ask your questions, and let people answer with text — or a quick screen or camera recording — on the same page. If that sounds useful, join the free beta, or compare in detail on our Typeform alternative page.
