How to record your screen online for free
- Choose your options. Turn on your microphone, the camera bubble, tab or system audio and the countdown, and pick WebM or MP4 if your browser offers both.
- Click Start recording. Your browser asks what to share: the entire screen, a single window, or a browser tab. Pick one and click Share.
- Pause, resume, stop. Pause to skip a part, and press Stop (or the browser's “Stop sharing” button) when you're done.
- Preview and download. Watch the result right here and click Download. The file is saved directly to your device.
A free online screen recorder with no signup — and no upload
Most “free” screen recorders ask you to create an account, cap videos at a few minutes, or stamp a watermark on them. This one doesn't. It uses features already built into modern browsers — getDisplayMedia to capture your screen and MediaRecorder to encode the video — so the entire recording happens on your computer. We never see your video.
That makes it a good fit for quick bug reports, tutorials, feedback on a design, walkthroughs for a client, or recording a slide presentation with your face in the corner.
What you can record
- Entire screen — everything on one monitor.
- A window — just one app, so notifications from other apps stay out.
- A browser tab — ideal for web demos; in Chrome and Edge you can include the tab's audio.
Tips for a clean recording
- Close unrelated tabs and turn on Do Not Disturb before recording.
- Record a single window instead of the whole screen to protect your privacy.
- Use headphones if you share system audio and talk at the same time, to avoid echo.
- Keep it short: a two-minute recording with a clear goal beats a ten-minute ramble.
Frequently asked questions
Is this screen recorder really free with no signup?
Yes. Open the page, click Start recording, and download your video. There is no account, no watermark and no time limit set by us; the practical limit is your device's memory and disk space.
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Recording happens with your browser's built-in MediaRecorder. The video stays on your device until you download it. Closing the tab discards it.
Which browsers are supported?
Recent desktop versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and Opera, and Safari 16 or newer on macOS. Mobile browsers on iPhone, iPad and Android do not allow web pages to capture the screen.
Can I record system or tab audio?
Yes, where the browser allows it. Chrome and Edge can capture tab audio, and on Windows also system audio, when you tick “Share audio” in the share dialog. Safari and Firefox currently capture video only from the screen, but your microphone still works.
Can I get an MP4 instead of WebM?
If your browser can record MP4 natively (recent Chrome, Edge and Safari can), MP4 appears in the Format menu. Otherwise the recording is WebM, which plays in browsers, VLC and most editors, and can be converted to MP4 with a free tool like HandBrake or ffmpeg.
How do I add my face to the recording?
Tick Camera bubble before you start. Your webcam is composited into a round bubble in the bottom-right corner of the video, entirely in your browser.
